Dela has found a way to pursue his dreams. He completed a course at the Institute of Tourism and studied Tour Operation and Guiding. He is very excited about the idea of showing Ghana to the world. He feels that Tourism is one of the very under- developed resources in Ghana. Dela is interested in being someone who shows people what Ghana has to offer. He knows that more visitors staying in accomodations, eating in restaurants and buying traditional craftwork would be a boost for the economy providing much needed work for many talented people. He would like to see the tourism industry grow and flourish. |
Dela can speak Ewe, Ga, Akan, Fante and English. In the countryside very often people only speak their dialect so it is very useful to be with someone who can communicate in many of the dialects... |

Several years ago he met Steve Rosenthal, the director of Cross Cultural Solutions, a non-profit organization which brings volunteers to Ghana. Dela offered to organize a day trip to show the volunteers the beautiful sights of the Volta region. Since then he has taken many volunteers to see the Monkey Sanctuary in the Tafi Atome Village and then on to the Wli waterfall. The volunteers always come back from his trip smiling and happy with lots of stories to tell back home.
He finds being a tour guide encompasses a lot of his passions. He is able to show people the country he loves which will in turn help his Ghana. He also introduces his visitors to Ghanaian music. He has been interested in music since he was 10 years old, dreaming about doing music, becoming a composer and playing the songs with a band. Today he writes his own songs and performs them. He has organized and performed six successful shows, two for Cross Cultural Solutions, one for the American Jews World service and three for the public in Ho. The volunteers and public all really enjoyed the shows! He likes to incorporate music into his tours and on the trip to the waterfall he will bring a drum and perform while the volunteers are eating a picnic lunch! He enjoys introducing the Ghanaian traditional music to visitors. The Ghanaians cherish their music and perform it at social gatherings and funerals and it is a lucky visitor who can see these performances... Remembering his dreams, Dela collects traditional instruments so he can encourage the neighborhood children between 4-16 years old to learn drumming and dancing. He would like to blend the traditional rythms with electronic instruments in his future recordings and performances. He was the Volta Regional secretary/organizer for the Volta Region branch of the Musicians union of Ghana. |
In 2001, the Ghana Tourist Board gave Dela
the
Volta Region best Tourist-Guide award.

Dela
was called by Mr Frank Kofigah, of the Ghana Tourist board
in Accra, who was also the Volta Regional manager to act as
a guide and assist the photographer, Max Milligan. Mr Milligan
was photographing Ghana for a 300 page Photobook that
will promote tourism. Since last June up to March of 2006 they
have been traveling, with some breaks in between, the countryside
photographing Ghana. The traveling ended with the filming of
the eclipse. The Ghana Photobook was launched on Tuesday
28th November 2006 in London, England and later in Accra. For
more information and to see some of Max Milligan's wonderful
phtotographs of Ghana visit http://www.maxmilligan.com/ghana.htm

"Dela offered to reserve a specific four wheel drive vehicle he knew about that would be capable of making the trip we had outlined. It turned out to be a Nissan Patrol with extra head room, making it possible to seat all five of us by making use of the two side seats in the very back. He also made arrangements for us to hire a driver knowledgeable about the roads we would be taking and who he knew would drive safely. Both vehicle and driver worked out well and made the trip possible. There were no surprises at any point in the prices Dela quoted us, and we were very happy to have made the arrangements through Dela."
